It is a rainy/monsoon season and late evening raag. It has been used in patriotic compositions. Vande Mataram, the national song of India, is based on it. The popular old Doordarshan video 'Baje Sargam', which features many respected Indian classical musicians, is also based on Desh. It is quite close to neighbouring ragas like Tilak kamod, and hence requires skilful rendition to separate itself.
